Children’s Music

Music is increasingly disappearing from the curriculum in schools. It is therefore our privilege to be working with Burnham Market Primary School. Our two day workshop aims to include as many children as possible, either as singers or making props and being stewards on the night of the performance.

“The opportunities provided to our children by Music in Thorpe are unique and hugely valuable. Not only do they give pupils the opportunity to engage with and learn from world class musicians, but the workshops and performances also give them the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience in the wonderful setting of All Saints Church. Such opportunities for a rural community such as ours are so limited, with the pupils gaining confidence and new skills as well as developing their musical talents, understanding and creativity. The workshops and performances are also hugely enjoyable for them and their families love coming to watch!’
Schools have also explained the importance of not charging for these creative, enjoyable and memorable experiences.”

Our main workshop in May takes place over two days followed by a concert on the evening of May 13th. Two young musicians from Trinity Laban College of Music have devised a programme of familiar songs that the children will learn and perform in full costume. This exciting event is not to be missed.

The other exciting opportunity for the children is working with Mick Doran, principal percussionist with English National Opera. Special recitals too are planned with Joo Yeon Sir and Irina Andrievsky, Benedict Holland and Brenda Blewett, Aaron Akugbo and Zeyneb Ozsuca, the Maggini Quartet and culminating in a dazzling performance from the electric string quartet Kavolectrica.
